Getting Dirty With WDMD!

Overall my blogging experience was alright.  I say just alright for a few reasons, one being that I never really knew what to blog about.  I didn’t really know too many things technically about Joomla or Drupal so if I blogged about it, it would just sound like I have no idea what I was talking about.  Second I never really enjoyed blogging and think the stuff I posted on here wasn’t very interesting.  I can say that becuase there are only a few hits on my site in the past 2 weeks.  But I think if used right, blogging can be a real useful tool, maybe I just haven’t figured it out yet.

This has been an intense 10 days; but I have learned a lot.  I went from not knowing what way was up or down to becoming a Joomla web making machine.  A lot if things went good with my website.  I got all the plugins, modules and components integrated in that I wanted too.  Joomla was a different beast and I have never dealt with something like it before but after a few days working with it I really got the hang of it.  I think that if I wouldn’t have pushed myself and spent a lot of time on my site in the beginning I would have never got as good a site as I have now.  My group on facebook really helped me get as many members as I have now.  Even if there is only 11 members currently, I have quite a few posts in my forum which I think is awesome.  Things could have went a lot worse for me but in the end my site is just what I imagined.

Although my site turned out great I did have my share of problems on the way.  One of my first problems was changing the name that pops up as the page name.  It was really annoying seeing this stupid generic name up there instead of what I wanted.  But after a bit of looking and some help from Tim we found it and changed it.  Another problem is that some plugins and modules just didn’t work the way I wanted or the way they said they would work.  This really got frustrating at times but after more searching I would always find something that did work.  One more thing is that the text on the front end of my site was kind of hard to read.  So what I had to do is change the text color to white on the back end.  So when I wanted to edit an article it got kind of frustrating becuase I couldn’t actually see what I had written.

There is nothing that I think I would change about my project.  It turned out great in my eyes and was better than I would ever had imagined.  It has a bunch of great features and I think people would really like it if they joined.  Overall I would give myself an A, but I guess we will have to see.

Do you play Call of Duty all the time?  Well I know I do and thats why I chose to do my website as a Call of Duty fan site.  I always am checking online for the latest news on games and videos game systems, usually on IGN.  But now I can find them on my website!  I think it’s awesome being able to post my own articles on up-to-date Call of Duty information.  I can communicate with my member via the forum and upload images to my galleries.  Getting a good grade is important but the I think I will be happier with just how much fun I have had doing something that I actually like in a class.

For my website I chose to install Community Builder to handle my users.  I am very pleased with the results and the amount of customization that I can do with profiles.  You can upload your own image, connect with other users and even integrate it with other components like the Kunena Forum.  Being able to extend such awesome features to my users for no cost at all is really an important aspect of my website.  I highly recommend using Community Builder in your website; if you want to see how it works head over to my site at http://mymy2online.info/joomla.

I am proud to say that my website is complete!  There are maybe a few tweaks or maybe another article or two that I could add but other than that it is fully functional.  I have multiple articles, a forum, image galleries and even videos attached to my articles.  I am very proud of the work I’ve done and think it would be worth your time to check out my site.  Really all I need is the users on my site and it is a success in my eyes.  So it would be a great help if you would go to my site and register!

Modern Warfare to date has generated over a billion dollars in revenue.  It is possibly one of the biggest entertaiment releases of all time and earned over 500 million in its first week of sales.  Not many titles can say that if any at all.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and shattered theatrical box office and video game records,” said Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game.”

I just recently wrote a review on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.  You can find it here at http://tinyurl.com/ykxyalp.   It gives an overview of the game and different components that make it up.  If you haven’t already you can sign up at my website and write in the forums or comment on the articles.

I showed how to configure an image gallery.  I thought this assignment was going to be kind of tough but it only took me about a half an hour.  I think I did a good job and with my instructions so installing and setting up the Very Simple Image Gallery should be no problem at all.  I used some pretty crappy instructions when I set it up on my site and it still took me no time at all.  So just check out the installation guide below if you need a simple gallery on your website.  I highly recommend it and it will take no time at all.

Today I got webmaster integrated into my website.  At first I had some troubles because when Tim explained how to do it to the class he explained not for google but for Bing.  Me being a not so computer smart person yet had trouble figuring out how to get this done.  So I went to Tim for help and it was as simple as pasting the meta tag in my template.  Now all I have to do is wait till tomorrow to start seeing some stats.
